You start walking across a field, the snow starts getting deeper and deeper, and you soon realize going around would have been WAY faster. Unless you’re a kid, and you can do the Jesus thing and walk on water… (or in this case snow ).
So I played hockey yesterday, and one of the guys I played against was 64 years old. And he was really good! It gives me hope!
And the other big news is that Daughter #4 is home from Quebec a bit early. Kind of a sad story, her host mother slipped on some ice and ended up cracking two vertebrae, which is pretty awful. She looks to make a full recovery, but she’ll be laid up for at least a few months, so it became impossible for Micha to stay there. We really hope Helene gets better soon!
Nothing more exciting than getting two feet of snow, and finding that you now have a hill in your backyard where there used to be only a shed!
And speaking of snow…. we made the national news yesterday we got so much snow, over 18 inches in a day. It was a lot of snow, and now it’s coming down again. Thank god for neighbors with snow blowers!
Well, you CAN move somewhere warm, but you have to wait til you retire first…
Mom’s home from Australia, we picked her up at the airport yesterday, and she appears none the worse for wear. Must be a new kinder, gentler Australia…?
I wrote all these comics last week when it was cold and storming, it’s actually pretty nice out now… It’s like watching the Weather Channel from last week.
We finally got to skate on the river in Winnipeg this weekend, it was really fun. I wish they’d had that in the city when I was a kid! It reminded me a lot of skating on the Rideau Canal when we lived in Ottawa, except that you can play hockey here in Winnipeg. Which I did, two quick pickup games, super fun!
Every time I’m inching along on a slippery highway and I see some snowmobiles go roaring by in the ditch, I’m pretty sure they’re doing it just to bug me…
So sorry no comic yesterday, I got hit with a pretty brutal flu, and was out of commission for the day. Still not at 100%, but hoping I’ll be good by tomorrow.
Also, if you’d like to see some Crowbar strips in Dutch, there’s a few appearing in the online magazine called ‘Knocky’. It’s very cool to see the strips in different languages, I must say.
I always wished I could dig a tunnel through the snow to get to school on cold and windy days… I wasn’t smart enough to wish I could just stay home.
Daughter #3 is back in Vancouver, what a great visit that was! Just two more months til she’s back, right around the time Daughter #4 will be getting back from Quebec. But next up on the return queue: My mom from Australia.
(I live at the airport)
‘Cause there’s no greater thrill in the morning than driving by muscle memory until the windshield defrosts…
So we played hockey last night, and I missed at least three wide open nets, it was brutal. The puck is sitting there, the goalies down and out, I got time and… whiff. It’s like a nightmare, it’s on infinite loop in my brain. Better go watch some old Gretzky videos.
(And hey, Happy Valentine’s Day to my sweetie! I got staggeringly lucky to end up with such a great woman, and I’m happy about it every day. And because today’s Valentine’s day, I’ll tell everyone about it! ♥ )
